Is He Too Much Horse For A Beginner?
I like to put a navajo blanket under my pad to keep it sweat free
Proper fit on the saddle good point
at 12:40, my first thought is his mouth hurts.
Is it possible he is experiencing pain?
I was calm as could be riding the trail and listening to music. A guy on a bicycle rode up fast from behind and clipped or came too close to my horses back end, because the last thing I remember is the guy on bike saying OOPS and me lifting my face up from the dirt. Horse ran home. Was waiting at gate. I lost my phone when I came off so immediately got back on him and rode back to where the incident happened. I have some PTSD from that. So does he 😢
Once I found out you spent years with Pat Parelli, I became a new subscriber.
Give a horse an inch and they take a mile! Boundaries are needed not soft words and cuddles. Treat them like you demand respect like an alpha mare in a herd.
Her crying at first let me know she’ may have some inner emotional personal problems. It’s not the horses fault, she needs to let him feel assurance. Hope she gets some help.
Get a damn led with a chain those stupid halters have zero control they will drag u everywhere
This was probably the most beautiful dance class and final performance that I have ever witnessed. The calm of such mighty power is a magical moment of peace. These two humans found a way to bridge the gap of understanding and respect with the horse who was just waiting to be seen and heard and fully safe. Beautiful.
She gets a little and then she quits short of what she should. So the horse is then confused at to what is expected of him. But the good thing is she is so willing to learn.
Sounds like the horse is very upset about the move. He is may have been very close to his former owner. The ulcers speak of stress.
Big beautiful boy, I hope it works out for her.
Did you notice that the horse dropped its head?
I saw that. Was it a coincidence
Lacking Assertiveness
Looking at all the negative comments about the rider is sad. This video is supposed to be about HELPING her. At least she knew enough to ask for help, which is more than many others would do. If you'll note, the horse wasn't "perfect" for Ryan either, without extra work. It takes two to make a good partnership.
He's anticipating bad spurs. Also, she is not connecting to him. He's looking to her for cues and she's detached.
what was the mares name? i think it is torcher for how she wasn’t ridden for that long
Great breakdown there at the end... I'm not a cowboy but enjoy your training videos.
I do a lot of training and dog sports with my dog and it is interesting to see if the dog understands the verbal cue with no other cues. Try it, it’s good fun, and don’t do the ‘sit, sit, sit, sit verbal cue 😂, just say it once. There are a lot of similarities I find with the horse and dog training, especially with the leadership and assertiveness and developing a relationship.
Well its a short clip, but horse put its head down.
Haha, good catch! Funny
This horse reminds me of my 2 Jack Russell Terriers. You always had to get and keep their attention to train them. This horse seems to be the same…..always letting his mind wander. 😂😂😂
Why not start in smaller training areana
He is a wonderful, sensitive and smart horse. I would love to have had the opportunity to have him when I was younger.
Good job,amazing work.
Cliff hanger,😂
I would say most people have no idea how to handle horses
I dont own a horse but I love them and I love your videos!❤
Ryan has a gift❤
This is a good horse who simply has been allowed to get away with things. Good for her for expanding her knowledge. If she keeps learning and expects more of him they will be a great team.
This was awesome. Especially when Ryan calmly discusses the pickle he’s in as he’s flying around the arena on a cyclone. 😂
what do you expect you know nothing about his past
I have worked a lot with our rescue Belgian mare and I have taught her to lower her head when I am doing things that are scary to her. When she lowers her head and relaxes is when I stop asking and release the pressure. I wouldn’t have gotten on him with his head high like that. I would stand with my foot in the stirrup and when he relaxed (our cue is to lower the head) then I would take my foot out of the stirrup. It doesn’t take more than a few times for them to get that. I think her biggest thing is that she hasn’t been releasing the pressure we soon we he attempted to give the correct answer. I’m sure no one had taught him that. Too many horse owners have no clue about the horse language.
I love this actually
I love all of Ryan’s wisdom
I'm confused. So should you say down and your dog drops down? How have you connected with the dog and got it's attention? Surely you need to make a connection followed immediately by the request?
I believe you goal is to get them to connect to the command not the body signals your giving off. In this case you say the command, be patient until they do something like you want then reward them.
It's amazing what you can learn from a trainer, your a prime example, thank you Ryan and have a great weekend.

Yeah she doesn’t seem to know how to ride and use the reins.
Great advice, but also wanting to point out that horses, like people, come in many different personalities and energy levels. So some horses are just plain resistant to working without a lot of prodding, no matter how good the rider is.
One should never separate a foal from it's mother before a year old. Our colt is 14 months old and still nurses and is quite attached still to this mother and she is still quite protective over him. He is growing up to be very calm, confident and easy to handle. It's heartbreaking to see young foals at merely 6 months old being torn from their mother. They are much too young. In the wild they can sometimes nurse up to 2 or even 3 years old. Not to speak of the nutrients and comfort they get from that as well. I wonder if some of the medical issues we find today are due to this lack of nutrients in early years due to too early weaning. Not to speak of the development of ulcers and inability to handle stress later on in life.
Great job Ryan.
Great training sessions, so much progress in such a short amount of time. It really warms my heart to see horses coming over their fear of something by trusting us. All about timing, the right amount of exposure and a looot of love and praise.
Do they make a smaller one that can be pulled by an ATV?
You need to see Monty Roberts He will sorted out your horses
You sure can ride!
I have two young students that have trained at other barns, Ryan, you are so right about the heavy hands! Guess what video I'm making them watch?? Yep, this one!! Teaching them groundwork so they get to know the horse, love teaching them less is more! Do less, get more and have a happy horse! Thanks Ryan
Hes a star ,,he really shows how to Start a horse ,,he makes sure they know their ABC before expecting them to learn to read,,and he demostrate,s that being a good trainer is not about drama ,but steady progression thro understanding ,,follow his teaching and you will have a safe horse to ride ,,a horse that understands you and is gonna love his work .❤❤❤❤
Congrats on your new arena drag! I have one like that, the smaller version, the Rascal. Love it!
Daaaaannng he's a beautiful horse! I bet he cost a lot! Great job helping them I love your video
